How To Know if Your Water Needs Help
Chances are you’re not a scientist. Thankfully you don’t have to be to determine what may be ailing the water in your home.
Of course, you can just call your Culligan Man for a free water test, and not only get an answer, but also a personalized solution. However, we understand there’s a certain satisfaction in coming to a conclusion on your own.
Before you can make a determination on whether your water is compromised, you’ll need a few scientific instruments – your senses.
That’s right. Sight, taste, smell and touch can sometimes help you determine if there are contaminants in your water. Pretty simple! But don’t be fooled. While water contamination can sometimes be spotted easily, it’ll require the help of your Culligan Man to solve what is actually a complex problem. Luckily we come armed with treatment and filtration systems tailored to your specific needs.
First, let’s see if we can spot the problem.
- Does your water have a red, orange, yellow, brown, or cloudy appearance? That can signal iron, rust, or other contaminants in the water mains or your home plumbing.
- Is there a blue or green hue to your water? Corroded plumbing could be causing copper to infiltrate your water.
Quality water should be clear and colorless. If it is clear and colorless, can you smell the problem?
- If the water smells or taste like rotten eggs, you may have a hydrogen sulfide situation, usually caused by a certain type of bacteria. This may also lead to salty-tasting water.
- Does your water smell more like a pool than a glass of drinking water? Chlorine is sometimes in water for disinfection purposes, but chances are you’d rather not be drinking it.
- Chemicals like mercury, lead, copper, arsenic, or iron might be in your water if it has a metallic smell or taste. The chemicals could be coming from your pipes.
Quality water should be odorless and taste refreshing. But sometimes it’s not that simple. What makes water tricky is that even clear, colorless, odorless and fresh-tasting water may have undetected problems, which is why it’s best to have your water regularly tested.
Thankfully, Culligan has your water experts. Find yours. There is better water ahead.
