What to Expect at Your Culligan Water Test and Consultation
You deserve better water for your family and your home. Scheduling a complimentary consultation with your local Culligan Water® expert is a great first step to help diagnose any issues and find the right solution. While every homeowner’s situation is unique, here’s what you can typically expect from your consultation and water test with Culligan.
We’ll have some simple questions for you.
The consultation, including your home water test, can take as little as 30 to 60 minutes, but timing will vary depending on your needs, questions and water conditions. If a spouse or partner is exploring water treatment options with you, they should attend as well.
Customers typically schedule consultations because they have specific concerns about their water quality, so first, you and your water specialist will discuss what’s most important to you about your home’s water quality and any worries you have. Often, they will share a copy of your local water quality report so you can learn more about potential problems in your area.
These are some of the most commonly mentioned issues:
- Unpleasant odors or tastes
- Glass doors or dishes with water spots
- Red or brown stains around toilet bowls and faucets
- Calcium buildup on faucets and shower heads
- Problems with dishwashers and washing machines
- Soap scum on shower doors and walls
- Shampoo buildup on hair
- Dry and itchy skin and scalp
- Laundry not cleaned properly
Next, your water specialist will walk with you around your home to see the best place for a filtration or softening system to be installed. Typical locations include utility rooms, basements, garages, under the sink, or even outdoors.
Water treatment solutions come in different sizes, so they’ll also check the size of your pipes and ask about your household’s water usage.
Water testing helps us know what you need.
For water testing, your water specialist will just need access to your water, whether it comes from a municipal water source or private well. For most consultations, water from the tap of your kitchen sink is all that’s needed. If you already have a water softener or filtration system in place, we’ll also need access to the water at the point of entry to your home or business (so we can understand the quality of your water before it’s treated). This means we’ll need access to water from an outside spigot (if you use a municipal service) or at the tank (if you have a well).
Even if you haven’t noticed an issue, testing provides peace of mind if you’re concerned about the safety of your water or have seen reports about potential concerns on your local news. This is important for municipal water users as well as well water users, who are responsible for their own water quality. (If your water comes from a private well, it is recommended that you test the well water annually, as federal rules governing public drinking water systems do not apply to private wells.)
In-home water tests vary depending on your local water conditions as well any concerns you have, but in most cases, Culligan’s free water tests will determine the levels of hardness, chlorine, and total dissolved solids (dissolved salts, minerals and metals, also known as TDS) in your water, as well as the pH level. If your water comes from a well, additional tests might also look for the presence of hydrogen sulfide (sulfur) and iron.
It’s important to note that while community water systems treat water at the plant, they can’t control the quality of the water all the way to your home. That’s where Culligan systems come in. If you’re concerned about a specific contaminant, such as lead, or if an initial test reveals a more complex water problem, we may recommend a laboratory test. Testing conducted at Culligan’s IL EPA-certified lab can identify lead, arsenic, copper, bacteria and many other contaminants in your water sample.* The fee for laboratory tests varies based on the number of contaminants being tested. Results are typically available within three business days. When the results are available, we’ll call you to discuss the findings and make a recommendation.
We’ll make a recommendation customized to your home, water test results and usage, and specific concerns.
As a last step before determining the best system for your home, your water specialist will also do a quick analysis to help you understand what you’re already spending to address your water problems. After reporting on your water quality and determining the cause of any identified water issues, your water specialist will then recommend water treatment solutions specific to your needs.
This discussion will include an explanation of how exactly the Culligan system will work to improve your water quality, as well as a cost estimate and payment options such as renting or financing. You can also learn about additional benefits like maintenance and salt delivery programs.
Your water specialist will customize your experience to your needs and local water conditions, so not every consultation is exactly alike. Questions? Reach out to your local Culligan Water expert at any time. If you haven’t done so already, you can schedule your free consultation today.
